Scholarship – FAQ

How important is the personal essay?
Probably the most important element of your application. The personal statement is your chance to tell your story: who are you? What matters to you? What are you out to do in the world? The resume and reference letters provide substantive detail of your accomplishments, but this essay gives you the opportunity to cast an overarching narrative for the selection committee.
I am an Indian resident and plan on pursuing my higher studies in Canada. I am in terrible need of funds, am I eligible to apply?
Unfortunately, you must be a Canadian Citizen or Permanent Resident to apply.
Do I have to be of Sikh faith to apply?
Yes, as per the Eligibility criteria, you must be of Sikh faith to apply. This criteria is governed by the scholarship's goal, which is to promote a culture of education within the Sikh community. Given this objective, the scholarship must be specific to the Sikh applicants only.

The application requires a copy of my Grade 12 Mid-term transcript, but it is not yet available. What do I do?
The application form does not require your Grade 12 Mid-Term Transcript. Attach your mid-term transcript if it is available. If it is unavailable, you can submit your application without this component, and your application will still be considered.

However, if you believe you will be unable to achieve a minimum academic Grade 12 mid-term average of 80%, do not apply. The Foundation will ask for your Grade 12 transcript at the end of the school year, and if a minimum Grade 12 academic average of 80% is not achieved, the scholarship will be revoked.
I have received an offer of admission from a university, but it is not my first choice and I am still expecting other offers from universities. Do I have to list the offer I have received? Can I change my post secondary selection after I have applied for the scholarship?
Yes, list the offer you have received and attach the Admission Letter. It gives us an indication you have at least one option of post-secondary education. You are able to change your post-secondary selection once you have applied and are offered the scholarship. The scholarship covers any Canadian university, for any program of study. Note: if you are not accepted into a post-secondary institution, or you decide not to attend post-secondary education, the scholarship funding is immediately withdrawn.
I have not yet received an acceptance letter from a university. I am currently enrolled in grade 12 biology and chemistry and both are prerequisites for the programs I have applied for. I may not receive an offer until after my midterm marks are uploaded. Am I still eligible?
Yes, you are still eligible. But please note: if you are not accepted into a post-secondary institution, or you decide not to attend post-secondary education, the scholarship funding is immediately withdrawn.

My application is not being accepted. When I try to submit, I get the following error message: “Unexpected token”. What should I do?
2 causes:

i. You can try updating your browser; or
ii. Too many applications are being sent through the server at the same time. You are advised to wait a few hours and try submitting your application again. If the application persists, wait until the following morning, and try again. To prevent this situation, students are encouraged to apply as early as possible. Avoid the rush and avoid overloading the server.
Can I still apply to the scholarship, even though the deadline has passed?
No. Late applications will not be accepted.
